Artist of the Collection

Sol Calero

Born in 1982 in Caracas, Venezuela

Sol Calero’s work explores her South American heritage, both individually, through personal and family archives, and collectively. Her interest in the art of the Cusco School (sixteenth–eighteenth centuries) is rooted in a postcolonial perspective, as well as in a reflection on the conception and representation of cultures. Sol Calero’s art is characterised by its syncretic dimension, its intrinsic link with the places in which it was created, and its vivid colours in the Latin American tradition.

Born in 1982 in Caracas (Venezuela), where she lived until the age of seventeen, Sol Calero is a graduate of the Tenerife and Madrid art schools. She currently lives in Berlin.
