Dalila Belaza investigates the possibility of a universal rite, inventing an imaginary traditional dance "without origin or territory" that links the present to eternity.

A force that takes possession of the body, echoing a heritage that each of us is charged with, often unconsciously. Developed in parallel with the group pieces Au Cœur and Rive, the solo Figures, an imaginary ceremony that questions the sources of the contemporary, can as much represent the culmination of research as its most refined aspect.

In a liminal atmosphere, where intimacy merges with the history of humanity, a mysterious "material character" emerges who transcends space, deploying an abstraction charged with ancestral resonance.
As in some of her sister Nacera's creations, in which Dalila has participated since their shared beginnings, the body and dance emerge from the mists of time, from metaphorical narrative to letting go, on the edge of materiality and without ever referring to a specific tradition. Fluid
and apparently abstract, dressed in a costume that seems to have no contours, carried by subliminal lights and sound environments, this body given over to the unconscious belongs to all the communities of humanity.

And, as in the paintings of Pierre Soulages, light can emerge from the darkness, not as an intruder but as a burst of light.

As a choreographer and performer, Dalila Belaza uses dance to explore a utopian territory where the intimate and the universal meet like two infinite horizons.

Dalila Belaza first made a name for herself as a performer and artistic partner to her sister, the choreographer Nacera Belaza. Through their research into deep memories of the body and a dance inhabited by a limitless inner space, they have built up a significant part of the choreographic landscape. Building on this foundation, over time she felt the need to give voice and form to personal issues. It's a trajectory that led her to pursue different lines of questioning, extending this field of being to other realities. For several years now, Dalila has been working on her own projects, developing work that explores the themes of identity and the dialogue between ritual dance and abstraction. Through dance, she seeks "a utopian territory where the intimate and the universal meet like two infinite horizons".

"I'm looking for the intimate, mysterious and unchanging story that lies dormant within us. Something that speaks of being in an essential sense and that can bring us together. To do this, I create the conditions that allow us to open up and question our intimacy, as if to extract from it a reinvented human story".

At the end of 2020, Dalila Belaza created hiya compagnie to ensure the development and continuity of her personal projects. Since then, she has created three new pieces Au cœur, Figures and Rive, which combine the languages of folk dance and contemporary dance. These pieces portray an adventure that is both artistic and philosophical.

The Fondation d'entreprise Hermès, the DRAC Ile-de-France, and valued partners such as the Théâtre de la Ville, the BNM - Direction (La) Horde, and La Briqueterie-CNDC du Val de Marne have supported Dalila's work since Au cœur.
