My name is Dominika. I studied art school and then I got more and more interested in books, I studied printmaking and I work with Aldo in making this contemporary art magazine and I write as well.

MATTO is an idea that was born two or three years ago. At first, it was about creating a contemporary art magazine that was a bit different and that followed our vision, but that was also open to many other practices, not exclusively contemporary art.

I really wanted to start this publishing house, we were editing the magazine for two years and we wanted to start to do other publications with it, so books. And to also focus on a project of writing.

It's also a very good opportunity to create images, so to focus on this thought: how to create images, not to illustrate, but that pair with the texts.
Dominika Hadelova
We have the two months and we wanted to make something which was really made during the two months, not to bring some old works, not to bring old images but really make something in the moment. There are the texts, they are written during the two months, and the images don't necessarily relate to the texts but they were also produced during the two months.

Several parts of the book are printed with two techniques. We decided to print with riso print only the black parts of the book: the black and white images and the texts on mat paper. And we chose to print all the colored images with laser print on gloss paper.

It’s the first book of the new artists publishing house - if you can call it like that - and I think it just gave me more desire to make more books, different books. But yeah I think it’s like the beginning.
