Jean-Yves Leloup, author, sound artist and journalist specialising in electronic music, presents the new edition of 'Techno 100, Classiques, Hits et Raretés', published by Le Mot et Le Reste.
Dedicated to the dancefloor, with its powerful, futuristic and industrial sound, Techno has also had a more melodious and melancholy side since its birth in Detroit among a community of visionary black American musicians in the late 80s.
In this new edition, Jean Yves Leloup defines the genre, questions its aesthetics and recounts its emergence, the first sketches of which can be seen at the crossroads of the 70s and 80s, with artists such as Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Front 242 and Man Parrish.
Leloup begins by defining the genre, examining its aesthetics, imagination and history, and then goes on to list a hundred essential records, from historic hits (by Richie Hawtin, Underworld, Laurent Garnier, Daft Punk, Slam and Aphex Twin), iconic EPs that marked the golden age of the 90s (Dave Clarke, Green Velvet, Maurizio), sometimes little-known tracks from the more underground period of the 2000s (with Âme, Ellen Allien or Nathan Fake) and the formidable current revival of a genre (with Steffi, Rone or Recondite).
