The Vestoj Storytelling Salon

Event from 27 Jan to 29 Mar 2015

Galeries Lafayette has played a defining role in the history of fashion, in it’s democratisation and its spread. So naturally, Lafayette Anticipations - Fondation d'entreprise Galeries Lafayette reserves a space for reflection for designers, critics and historians.
Of all the creative disciplines Lafayette Anticipation wants to accompany, there is no other which straddles the imaginary and the material in quite the same way. The resources of fashion are contained in its fixed calendars and complex commercial side. It is the most obvious expression of the present, doubtlessly why its production and industry impose a seasonal straightjacket upon it. Today, however, certain trend theorists see slowness as a lever of its renewal. This clear-sighted view of fashion offers a distance and allows room for discussion. The invitation extended to Anja Aronowsky Cronberg testifies to this desire. Founder of the review “Vestoj”, Anja strives to link practice and theory in fashion. Since its creation in 2009, the journal has tackled the most sensitive of themes: Material Memories, Magic, Shame, Fashion and Power. This multi-disciplinary approach passed from the page to space, and from the written to the oral, on the occasion of the “Vestoj Storytelling Salon”. In 2014, the event of the April 5 allowed at 9 rue du Plâtre to welcome associates from the fashion world, and to bring the notion of inheritance, as much in the walking around as in the oral tradition, in the delicate fragility of the moment. In 2015, The Vestoj Storytellingo355i5k4n4n4 on Slowness, was held on January 27 in the salons of the company Ekimetrics, then on March 29 at MoMA PS1 in New York. THE JOURNAL OF SARTORIAL MATTERS Vestoj is a cross-disciplinary platform for critical thinking on fashion. To date, it includes an annual journal, an online site and regular Vestoj Salons, often themed around topics such as ‘material memories’, ‘shame’, ‘power’ and ‘time’. Each Vestoj project is a reflection and interpretation of current contemporary thinking and practice around ideas of fashion and its contribution to society.
