From an abstract composition which simply highlights the raw grain of the supporting wood, Niels Trannois brings out faintly sketched anthropomorphic limbs and an accumulation of tangled dark lines. He induces a discrepancy between the abstract representation and the title I will give you a name, which reduces the creative act to “giving a name” to one’s production. The artist delivers an enigmatic creation that introduces textural effects through the use of various materials. He plays with the contrasts between language and the sensation produced by the work, abstraction and narration, representation and emotion in a painting that is also evocative of the surrealists.

Text written by Valentine Brégeon as part of the partnership between the École du Louvre and Lafayette Anticipations – Fonds de dotation Famille Moulin.
