The photograph cowboy photo (no07) shows a cowboy on horseback in a Mexican landscape. It appears to have been taken at sunset, and the smoked Plexiglas that acts as a window further accentuates the darkness of the scene. Seen from behind, the lone rider appears to be immersed in a perpetual twilight that renders him difficult to make out. This image belongs to a series of similar shots exhibited at the Catherine Bastide gallery in 2011. It accompanied the maquette Night house at daytime, a sculpture-habitat immersed in an endless night. The Mexican rider echoes the house’s Aztec-inspired roof, which places it in a Mesoamerican universe with its stepped pyramids. Like the texts on smoked Plexiglas and the “Soleils”, painted metal sculptures presented on this occasion, the image interprets the theme of the night. The combination of these works complements the sculpture and evokes the world that the house perceives through its darkened windows.
