SoiL Thornton

Born in 1990 in Macon, Georgie

SoiL Thornton’s work questions the notion of perception through issues of identity and fetishisation. Conceived as protean abstractions, her works question the mechanisms governing identity construction in contemporary societies. SoiL Thornton represents and explores the figure of the artist as capital and product. He is interested in the commodification of the art world, and more generally in the world of work and the notion of commercialisation. His works combine salvaged materials, which he describes as “finds”, with raw materials. The resulting aesthetic clash reveals a dissonance between two states, questioning the space that separates them.

Born in 1990 in Macon, Georgia (USA), SoiL Thornton is a graduate of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and lives and works in Brooklyn.
