In works drawing on video, photography, performance, and installation, Sara Sadik deploys the aesthetic of beurcore, a term she coined to describe the culture of the young North African diaspora in France. She uses popular references such as rap, video games, and street food, as well as a familiar vernacular spoken with a Marseille accent. These generational references—which are usually maligned—are invoked with humour and irony in works that question masculinity and play on social clichés, particularly in relation to the suburbs, and carry a political discourse with the intention of social legitimisation.
Born in Bordeaux (France) in 1994, Sara Sadik is a graduate of the École des Beaux-arts de Bordeaux. She now lives in Marseille.
