Rejoignez-nous pour le lancement parisien du livre The Empire Remains Shop du duo Cooking Sections (Daniel Fernández Pascual et Alon Schwabe). Publié par Columbia Books on Architecture and the City, ce livre est l'aboutissement de la recherche et installation du même nom qui proposait une lecture post-coloniale des relations, imaginaires et économies qu'entretient le Royaume-Uni avec ses anciennes possessions.

La soirée se composera d'une introduction par Charles Aubin, curateur associé à Lafayette Anticipations et d'une réponse au livre par la curatrice et chercheuse Claire Tancons prenant en compte le contexte français. Cooking Sections présentera également leur conférence-performance The Next 'Invasive' Is 'Native'. La soirée se clôturera par un Q&A avec le public.

Les "Empire shops" (magasins de l'Empire) ont été pensés à Londres dans les années 1920 pour enseigner aux britanniques comment consommer les denrées provenant des colonies. The Empire Remains Shop de Cooking Sections spécule sur ce que seraient les possibilités et implications de vendre les restes de l'Empire britannique aujourd'hui. Le projet du duo ainsi que le livre établissent pour cela un cadre de pensée qui explore les paysages, imaginaires et économies que de nouvelles itérations de ces magasins devraient offrir afin de permettre un rebalancement des échanges globalisés.

Cooking Sections rassemble Daniel Fernández Pascual (né en 1984) et Alon Schwabe (né en 1984), un duo basé à Londres formé en architecture et arts visuels, notamment à Goldsmiths University.

Cooking Sections étudie les systèmes qui organisent le monde à travers les politiques alimentaires souvent par le biais de projets de recherche à long terme. Utilisant l'installation, la performance, la cartographie et la vidéo, les travaux du duo explorent les intersections possibles entre géopolitique, arts visuels et architecture.

Le travail de Cooking Sections a été présenté à Lafayette Anticipations à Paris (2018), à Storefront for Art and Architecture à New York (2017), à la Neue Nationalgalerie de Berlin (2014), au pavillon américain de la Biennale d'architecture de Venise 2014 et à DOCUMENTA (13) en 2012.

Cooking Sections fait partie de Manifesta 12 à Palerme. Les écrits du duo ont été publiés dans plusieurs magazines internationaux, dont e-flux, Frieze et Volume, ainsi que dans des publications telles qu’OfficeUS (Lars Müller) et Forensic Architecture (Sternberg Press). Leur livre The Empire Remains Shop (2018) est publié par Columbia Books on Architecture and the City.

Claire Tancons is a curator and scholar invested in the postcolonial discourse and practice of the politics of production and exhibition with a focus on performance. Tancons has charted a distinct curatorial and scholarly path in performance, inflecting global art historical genealogies with African diasporic aesthetics as well as decentring and othering curatorial methodologies as part of a wider reflection on global conditions of cultural production.
Recent curatorial highlights include Tide by Side, the opening ceremony of Faena Art’s Miami Beach district (2016); Up Hill Down Hall, a BMW Tate Live commission in the Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, London (2014) ; and En Mas': Carnival and Performance Art of the Caribbean (with Krista Thompson) organised and presented by Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans and co-organised as a travelling exhibition by Independent Curators International, New York. Over the last decade, she has curated for established and emerging international biennials such as Gwangju Biennale (2008), Prospect.1 New Orleans (2008), Cape Town Biennial (2009), Biennale Bénin (2012) and the Göteborg Biennial (2013). She is currently a curator for Sharjah Biennial 14 (2019). Tancons’ independent vision has been supported by a Prince Claus Fund Artistic Production Grant (2009), two Curatorial Research Fellowships from the Foundation for Art Initiatives (2007, 2009) an Andy Warhol Foundation Curatorial Fellowship (2008) and an Emily Hall Tremaine Exhibition Award (2012). In 2016, she was selected by Artsy as "One of the 20 most influential young curators in the US". Tancons holds an MA in Museum Studies from École du Louvre, Paris (1999) and an MA in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London (2000). She is also a former Curatorial Fellow of the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program, New York (2001).
