Marked by horizontal lines, these photographs, which showing industrial and minimalist architecture in a natural setting, are characteristic of Nicolas Moulin’s work. As in his famous Vider Paris series, he immerses the viewer in familiar landscapes that have been transformed to give them an enigmatic, post-apocalyptic dimension. Through the building or the perfectly manicured lawn, a human presence can still be felt in this deserted landscape. The artist explores his preferred themes, such as utopian architecture (which he also touches on in his project on the Datchotel Ryugyong), science fiction, and civilisational narratives. The viewer thus becomes the narrator, like the hero of the film Warmdewar discovering a universe populated by the remains of a lost world. Nicolas Moulin’s futuristic work also echoes the current post-pandemic context and climate change.
