[THE WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED SOON!]

We all inherit a name by which we are called. But where does this name come from? What period does it date from? Why was it given to us? And how do we wear this name?

What's your name Workshop
by Chloé Quenum
7-12 years
3-day workshop: Dates to be confirmed
Hours: 10am-12pm* / 2pm-5pm

Artist Chloé Quenum invites children to ask questions, to share, and to imagine stories inspired by their first and family names.

A presentation is the first stage of this workshop. Participants then elaborate and record their accounts about the history of their names, before finally being asked to sculpt miniature architectural forms recounting the story of their name, using clay.

What is your name? Starting from this simple question, Chloé Quenum guides children towards a creation involving different practices, which examines the role of each of us in the world, and through history and culture.

Chloé Quenum is a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and studied the anthropology of writing at the Ehess. Her early installations were characterized by the play of displacement and the staging of ordinary objects. Today, her work is based around an anthropological and historical approach, focusing on different regions around the world, particularly West Africa and Oceania.

The Studiolo is a space for experimentation devoted to the arts and open to all members of the public. Artists from the worlds of the visual arts, performance, design and fashion are invited to design innovative and exciting practical workshops. The members of the public participate, exchange and collaborate according to the modus operandi in operation for each workshop. Different tools, materials and skills are used, culminating in an original co-production.

Chloé Quenum received her diploma from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2011, with the congratulations of the jury, and pursued her education at the Ehess in 2016, where she studied the anthropology of writing.
Chloé Quenum’s early installations were characterized by the play of displacement and the staging of ordinary objects. Today, her work is based around an anthropological and historical approach, focusing on different regions around the world, particularly West Africa and Oceania. She makes use of multiple materials, borrowing forms and graphic signs, and transposing them onto new supports, through the use of artisanal techniques and procedures. Through and in her work, we witness the fusion of cultures, histories and references, allowing us to question the interpretation and context surrounding the reading of an object.
