Philippe Hallais is a French electronic music composer born in Honduras and living in Paris. Since 2014, he co-directs Editions Gravats / Les Disques De La Bretagne with Jean Carval.
His music plays on the use of sound clichés, media folklore, and is inspired by the multiplicity of musical languages associated with underground subcultures. He is the author of six albums, including five under the pseudonym Low Jack (" Garifuna Variations " L.I.E.S., 2014 ; " Sewing Machine ". In Paradisum, 2015; "Lighthouse Stories" Modern Love, 2016; "Riddims du Lieu-dit" Editions Gravats, 2018; "Jingles du Lieu-dit" Editions Gravats, 2019) and one under his own name "An American Hero" (Modern Love, 2017). His work has been commissioned by the Ina GRM, the Musée du Quai Branly, the Fondation Ricard in Paris and the Société des Arts de Genève. His live performances include collaborations with artists as diverse as the musician Ghédalia Tazartès or the rapper Lala&Ce. Since 2017, he has been a member and active contributor to the Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement with Dominick Fernow (Hospital Productions). His most marked collaboration, in the form of installations with visual artists, Mediengruppe Bitnik ("Alexa, Who is Joybubbles?" 2017; "Alexiety" 2018), plays with the bleeps and ritornelli of personal digital assistants (Google Home, Siri, Amazon Echo), navigating between dancehall and sound art.
